This fourth and last Atlantic built by Bugatti came out of the body of the Usine on March 31, 1938, a year and a half after the third built, the 57473S. ,But the chassis of the 57591S is already on the road to the tests, on 7 October 1937, in the hands of Schwoerer, tester at the Usine.
Perhaps it was commissioned by R. B. Pope in autumn 1937 at the Salon «Olympia» London. But this blue Atlantic Coupe, inside pig leather, is delivered to its first owner only on May 3, 1938, through the Bugatti agency of Brixton Road, London.
If R. B. Pope decides to acquire an Atlantic, it is most certainly thanks to the favourable exchange rate and substantial reductions that Bugatti factory grants to its English customers.
Richard Pope died in 1988 and the same year, Tom Perkins sold his Atlantic to Ralph Lauren, the New York fashion magnate, at gold prices. In July 1988 he entrusted the total restoration of the car to the workshops of Paul Russell «Gullwing Service Company» located in Essex, Massachusetts. The car is painted in black in the colors of Ralph Lauren, like all his other Bugatti, making it look like the Black Atlantic of the Usine disappeared in 1941.
Done at 1/8e, this exceptional miniature is presented as a masterpiece of companionship. The wooden frame, made of beech wood, is the exact reproduction of the structure of the Atlantic before its bodywork. Moreover, the mechanics remain visible, the model is both a real tribute to the vintage vehicles and to those passionate about car mechanics.
